Thirteen Years of Chicago in Motion

Chicago answered. Loudly. And it hasn't stopped since.

This June, we're celebrating 13 years of rides, records, and a few things nobody had ever done before. On Friday, June 26, join us at Elston Electric for Launch 13– a free community celebration for the riders who made all of this possible.

We Went Everywhere
When Divvy launched, it served a handful of neighborhoods near the lakefront. That was never going to be enough. Over the next decade, we pushed into every corner of Chicago — the Far South Side, the Northwest Side, the Southwest Side — until we reached all 50 wards in 2023. Today Divvy covers 234 square miles, making it the largest bikeshare system by area in North America.

We Led the Country
Chicago didn't just grow — it innovated. In 2020, Divvy launched one of the first major ebike fleets in American bikeshare, putting 3,500 pedal-assist ebikes on the street overnight. In 2022, we became the first system in the nation to launch dockable scooters — integrating bikes, ebikes, and scooters at the same stations. That same year, we debuted the country's first micromobility charging stations, allowing ebikes and e-scooters to be charged while parked in a dock. No other city had done either. Chicago did both in the same year.

We Made It Accessible
Innovation only matters if people can use it. In 2025, the City of Chicago invested $3M to subsidize annual Divvy memberships, reducing the cost from $143.90 to $99 for thousands of riders, and established price caps on member ebike rides, and eliminated unlock fees entirely in Equity Priority Areas on the South and West Sides. The result? A record-breaking 6.8 million Divvy trips in 2025.

We're Just Getting Started
Year 13 might be our most ambitious yet. 200 new or upgraded stations are underway across Chicago in 2026. Membership pricing has been frozen at the previously reduced rate for a second consecutive year. And On June 10th, Chicago shattered the single day ridership record with nearly 42K+ rides–and summer is just getting started.
